Who was George Ulett?
George Andrew Ulett was born in September 22, 1889 in East Boston,
Massechusetts of English ancestry. George was fourteen when his
parents told him they couldn't afford to send him to high school. His
first job was with Barker Lumber Company, a retail lumberyard in
Waltham, MA. At eighteen, he was made the company salesman and only 4
years later, he opened his own retail yard in Needham. During World
War I, George set up two portable sawmills in South Sandisfield, in
western Massechusetts. The business was profitable and he sold the
operation.
