The
Coos County Home Historian
Biographies
Your
house is not just a physical structure. It is a
statement about all of the individuals that have
lived in it. Each previous inhabitant had the
opportunity to help develop the character of the
house you see today. If you are the current owner of
the house, you may well have questions about why
changes were made or when they were done.
Understanding something about the inhabitants and
their lives may help answer some of these questions.
Today,
a lot of genealogical information is available over
the Internet. You, in your research, can actually
contribute important information to the people that
are researching the same families you are. For
example, you may be able to correct errors, fill in
holes or give a personality to people that family
members can't, simply because you have access to
local records that they don't.
To
assist you in collecting your biographical
information, make several copies
of the Biography
worksheet. You may find it easier to save an
electronic copy of the file on your computer and
then edit the information with either a Word
Processing program or with a HTML editor such as
Microsoft's FrontPage, Netscape or Firefox. You may
also want to review Collecting
Biographical Information for more information on
how to research biographical information.
When
you have identified several of the previous owners
and know a little bit about them, you are ready to
continue and compile information on the
architectural changes that have made your house what
you see today.
